US Conference of Mayors will honor Mayor Ryan with the "Small Business Advocate Award"

Join us Monday, May 13th at Village Hall (99 James A. Garner Way) from 11am to 12:30pm as the US Conference of Mayors and Partner America honors Mayor Don Ryan, Village Board of Trustees and village organizations for the Small Business Advocate Award for their dedication to the small business community of his village.

This event offers business owners throughout the Hempstead community an incredible opportunity to speak with their mayor, meet community leaders, and learn more about “Planning for Profits” from the US Conference of Mayors keynote speaker, Jeffrey Bean.

Village of Hempstead Celebrates Older Americans Month

On Thursday, May 16th we will celebrate Older Americans Month with our annual luncheon.  The event will take place at Kennedy Park from 12pm to 2pm.  This year's theme is Connect, Create, Contribute, it encourages older adults and their communities to: Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation; Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment; Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

Join us at our 134th Memorial Day Parade!

Our 134th Annual Memorial Day parade will be held on Sunday, May 26th, starting at 2:30 p.m. The parade, which we will be hosting in conjunction with American Legion Post 390, is the longest running Memorial Day event of its kind on Long Island. The parade route will run from Greenwich Street to the Greenfield Cemetery. Prior to the parade kick-off there will also be a brief ceremony at the Civil War monument in Greenfield Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. as a special tribute to our fallen heroes.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own banners, floats or anything else they want to display in recognition of Memorial Day. At the completion of the parade, refreshments will be served at American Legion Post 390, located at 160 Marvin Avenue. For more information, please contact Juanita Hargwood at 516-478-6286.

Hempstead Historical Society's Walt Whitman Event

On Saturday, June 1st at 1:00pm, The Hempstead Historical Society will present the Walt Whitman & Long Island program which will feature highlights from the library's Walt Whitman collection and a viewing of the PBS documentary, "American Experience: Walt Whitman". This will take place at the Hempstead Public Library, 115 James A. Garner Way, Hempstead, NY 11550. For more information call 516-481-6990.

SAVE THE DATE for the Tyree Curry Memorial 5k Race Walk!

It's almost time for our Annual Tyree Curry Memorial 5K Race/Walk which will be taking place on Saturday, June 8. The race/walk will start and finish at Village Hall (99 James A. Garner Way) and will begin at 9 a.m. This year, all proceeds will benefit the Tyree Curry Scholarship Fund. 
Tyree Curry touched the lives of so many in the Hempstead community. He worked for many years as an educator and administrator in the Hempstead Public Schools.  He also served as the official photographer for the Village of Hempstead for a number of years as well.  Former Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr. began the 5K race and named the race in Tyree Curry’s honor after Tyree’s passing to recognize his achievements and contributions to Hempstead Village.  The present Board of Trustees is proud to support the continuation of this event in memory of Tyree. 
We invite everyone to participate in this event by running or walking.  It’s a great way to get in a little exercise, enjoy the weather and raise funds for a great cause.  Awards will be given to the top male and female overall finishers in a variety of age categories ranging from nine and under to 70 plus. Hempstead Hispanic Counseling Center Selected To Participate in Stop and Shop's Community Bag Program

For the month of May, a $1 donation will be made to the Hispanic Counseling Center each time a reusable Community Bag is purchased at the Stop & Shop located at 132 Fulton Avenue, Hempstead, NY.

Show your support this May.  The support you give will allow HCC to enhance services in the Long Island Community.  The Stop & Shop Community Program is also a great way to support HCC while working to eliminate single-use paper and plastic bags.  The Hispanic Counseling Center is located at 344 Fulton Avenue, Hempstead, NY 11550.  To learn more about HCC visit www.hispaniccounseling.org
