Happenings around the Village of Hempstead

It's time for our Annual Tyree Curry Memorial 5k Run/Walk and Hempstead Community Day event!

Now that warmer weather has finally arrived, the spring/summer season always brings some great outdoor activities in the Village of Hempstead for residents to enjoy.
One noteworthy event leading into the summer season is the Annual Tyree Curry Memorial 5K Run/Walk that will be taking place on Saturday, June 9. The run/walk will start and finish at Village Hall (99 Nichols Court) and will begin at 9 a.m. This year, all proceeds will benefit the Village of Hempstead's Police Athletic League (PAL).
Tyree Curry touched the lives of so many in our community. He worked for many years as an educator and administrator in the Hempstead Public Schools.  He also served as the official photographer for the Village of Hempstead for a number of years as well.  Former Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr. began the 5K race and named the race in Tyree Curry’s honor after Tyree’s passing to recognize his achievements and contributions to Hempstead Village.  We are proud to support the continuation of this event in memory of Mr. Tyree Curry.
I encourage everyone to participate in this event by running or walking.  It’s a great way to get in a little exercise, enjoy the weather and raise funds for a great cause.  Awards will be given to the top male and female overall finishers in a variety of age categories ranging from nine and under to 70 plus. Category winners will also receive a FREE pair of sneakers courtesy of Sneaker Terminal!  Please visit the village website at www.villageofhempstead.org  for more information, including registration forms and/or vendor sign up.  You can also call (516) 478-6286 or (516) 478-6247.
Immediately following the run/walk, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will be hosting our Health Fair & Hempstead Community Day at Denton Green Park (across from Village Hall).  There will be a free live concert along with a variety of activities for adults and children, including health screenings, fitness classes, face painting, balloon artists, a bouncy house, giant slide and more.
All in all it promises to be a meaningful and fun filled day for our residents to promote a healthy lifestyle so I hope you can join us at either or both events.   I look forward to seeing you there!
