Village of Hempstead honors Civil Rights Activist and National Hero General Joseph A. McNeil!
As you may already know, the Village of Hempstead is celebrating its 375th Anniversary. You can stay abreast of all the events that are planned by visiting www.hempstead375.com. A significant part of the year-long celebration will be the honorary street renaming of our very own General Joseph A. McNeil. He was a Founding member of the “Greensboro Four” civil rights sit-in, long time resident of the Village of Hempstead, Retired Major General in the United States Airforce, and a National Hero. We invite you to attend the honorary street naming ceremony on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 10:30 am at the corner of Angevine Avenue and Greenwich Street. To rsvp you can call 516478-6414.
Immediately following the honorary street naming ceremony there will be a building dedication at Franklin Street School located at 335 South Franklin Street in honor of General McNeil on behalf of the Hempstead Union Free School District.
