[ARCHIVED] Recognizing Caribbean-American Achievements

Caribbean American Heritage Month Award Receipients

Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. and the Village Trustees celebrated Caribbean-American Heritage Month during its annual festival. The celebration included live musical and cultural performances from Caribbean-American performing artists and distinguished members of the Hempstead community spoke about their experiences as Caribbean-Americans. This year’s program theme was “Contributing to the American Landscape.” The event was held at Denton Green Park in Hempstead and those in attendance enjoyed traditional Caribbean cuisine.

Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr. presented eight honorees with certificates of recognition for their significant contributions to the community: Khalilah Rose, a Reggae Roots performing artist; Ed Robinson, reggae singer and producer; Ena M. Bailey, CEO of Premiere Adult Day Care Services; Bobby Clarke, radio personality and producer and CEO of Irie Jam Radio, Inc.; Doug Mayers, president of the Long Island Caribbean-American Association; JR Allen, author, motivational speaker and entrepreneur; Karl A. Mitchell, author, educator and entrepreneur; Andre White, Steel Pan musician, composer and producer and Jeff Bacchas, CEO of Spices Negril Restaurant and Lounge.
