Community Oriented Police Services Unit

Community Oriented Police Services (C.O.P.S.) are the liaisons between Civic Associations, Community Groups and Business Organizations in the Village. A member of the Community Oriented Police Services Unit is assigned to individual Associations or Groups, attends their monthly meetings, and is responsible for quality of life type violations and other matters of a non-emergency nature reported to the Police. The officers of the Unit patrol on foot, in marked and unmarked vehicles and on bicycles.

Any Civic Association, Community Group or Business Organization wishing to become part of the Community Police effort may contact Sergeant Ivory Dixon at ext 474.

Officers of this unit address the gang issues throughout the Village and work closely with other agencies to effectively monitor, prevent, and terminate illegal gang activities.

The C.O.P.S. Unit also monitors the false alarms, both residential and commercial. We encourage all alarm users to prevent false alarms through equipment maintenance, education on the usage of alarm system, and how to cancel an alarm. False alarms waste taxpayer dollars and law enforcement time.

Graffiti can be reported to the C.O.P.S. Unit in order that proper action be taken for its removal.
