About Us
The Police Department performs general law enforcement duties, and patrols an assigned area for the protection of lives and property and the enforcement of laws and ordinances over which the Police Department has jurisdiction.

Civilian Personnel
The Department is augmented by approximately fifty civilian uniform and clerical members.

Community Oriented Police Services Unit
Community Oriented Police Services are the liaisons between Civic Associations, Community Groups and Business Organizations in the Village.

Domestic Violence Unit
The Domestic Violence Unit is responsible for the education, prevention and enforcement of Domestic Violence cases.

Investigations
Investigations is responsible for narcotic drug law enforcement and the followup investigations of crimes reported to the Department.

Juvenile Aid Bureau
The Bureau is responsible for dealing with youth problems in the Village.

Narcotics, Gang & Gun Information Hotline
The Narcotics, Gang and Gun Information Hotline is for reporting suspected drug sales or gang activity.

Outdoor Training Facility
The Outdoor Training Facility is responsible for the training of Hempstead Law Enforcement Officers.

Patrol
The largest of the divisions, The responsibility of the Patrol Division is that of primary emergency responder. The members of the Patrol Division operate marked police patrol vehicles and are on duty seven days a week, twenty four hours a day.

Traffic & Safety Bureau
The responsibility of the Traffic & Safety Bureau is to enforce New York State and local Village traffic laws.

Police Records & License Bureau
This department handles all FOIL request submitted in writing, also issues Village Licenses for taxicab owners, taxicab drivers, tow car owner’s and tow car drivers. Patrons can also receive copies of accident reports.
